What is Ayurvedic Pharmacy?

Ayurvedic is a system of medicine with historical roots in the Indian subcontinent. The origins of Ayurveda trace back to 6,000 BCE when it originated as an oral tradition. It is one of the very few ancient systems of medicine that is still widely used today. It flourished throughout the Indian Middle Ages.

During the period of British Colonial Rule, Ayurveda was neglected in favour of modern medicine. However, in post-independence India, Ayurveda gained importance and became a part of the Indian National Health Care system, with the establishment of various Ayurvedic State-Level hospitals across the country.

In India, research in Ayurveda is undertaken by the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda Yoga Unani Naturopathy Siddha and Homeopathy) through a national network of research institutes.

An Ayurvedic Pharmacist is a medical practitioner responsible for the spread and safe use of Ayurvedic medicines. He has all the knowledge and research required to be able to diagnose and prescribe Ayurvedic medicine to his patients.
