PTET Exam 2025 Overview

Puducherry TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) was conducted by the Directorate of School Education which is governed by the Government of Puducherry. It was a state-level entrance examination conducted to award eligibility certificates to Primary and Upper Primary level teachers to teach in various public and private schools of Puducherry.

But Since 2012 the Puducherry TET exam has not been held by the Board due for some reason. The Government of Puducherry has stated in a notice that The recruitment of Teachers in Government and private schools of Puducherry will be based on TET Exams conducted by the Central Government, the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and the Government of Kerala as suggested by National Council for Teacher’s Education (NCTE).

It was stated in the notice - “Puducherry Union Territory Administration had decided to recognize the TET conducted by the Central Government and the governments of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh for the purpose of appointment as a teacher in Puducherry as the union territory has adopted the curriculum of the respective states in the regions encompassed by the States.

On 24th July 2012, the Government of Tamil Nadu permitted the candidates hailing from the Puducherry and Karaikal regions to appear in the TN TET exam conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board, Government of Tamil Nadu. Now, even after years, the Directorate of School Education, Puducherry recruits teachers based on the TN TET exam and CTET Exam.

After Qualifying for a Puducherry TET Exam 2025/ TN TET Exam 2025 / CTET Exam 2025 or any other relevant TET exam accepted by DSE, Puducherry, the individual becomes eligible to apply for the job vacancy of teacher in the government and private Schools across Puducherry State for the duration of their Lifetime.

Earlier, the validity of the TET Certificate was 7 years, but In June 2011, The Government of India decided to extend the validity period of the TET certificate from 7 years to a lifetime, with effect from 2011. The candidates can apply for the examination by visiting the official website of the exam conducting authority (Directorate of School Education) i.e https://schooledn.py.gov.in/

The Puducherry TET exam 2025/TN TET 2025 or any other state or CTET Exam consists of 2 papers - Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is for the aspirants who are willing to teach the primary classes (Class 1st to Class 5th) and Paper II is for the aspirants who are willing to teach the Upper-Primary Classes (Class 6th to Class 8th). Candidates who want to become eligible to teach the students from Class 1st to Class 8th can appear for both of the exams Paper-I and Paper-II.

 All the Puducherry TET or TN TET qualifying candidates will receive an "Eligibility Certificate" after clearing the examination. Please note that this certificate is merely an eligibility criterion required to be fulfilled to get appointed as a teacher in the government schools located in Puducherry, but clearing the exam does not bestow any rights of Employment to the candidate.

  • Paper 1st

After qualifying for the TET Paper I, the candidate will become eligible to teach the primary classes; Class 1st to Class 5th in any government or private school.

  • Paper 2nd

After Qualifying for TET Paper II, the candidate will be eligible to teach Upper Primary Classes; Class 6th to Class 8th in any Government or Private School.

  • Paper 1st & Paper 2nd

After Qualifying both of these papers, the candidate becomes eligible to teach any class from 1st to 8th depending on his or her interest.

Q.1 What after the TNTET Result Declaration?

Ans. Candidates who got qualified in the Teacher Eligibility Test will get an eligibility certificate. The certificate will be considered proof that the candidate has passed that particular state’s TET Exam. The certificate will be in the form of an electronic mark sheet which can be downloaded from the official website.

Qualified Candidates can apply for various teaching jobs in Primary government and Private schools. If any candidate is not satisfied with his/her TET Result, then he or she can again appear in the TET examination next year to improve their scores.

Q.2 Can I get my TET Certificate via Post?

Ans. No, the authorities will not send the certificate personally to any candidate. Candidates themselves will have to visit the official website and download and print the eligibility certificate.

Q.3 Where can I find the announcements and notices about the TET exam?

Ans. Candidates have to visit their official website to fill out the application form, get admit cards, check the dates and center of the examination, check the answer key, and result, and download the eligibility certificate.

Q.4 Where to find the Recruitment for Government Schools after clearing the Puducherry TET Exam?

Ans. Directorate of School Education, Puducherry releases all the recruitment notices on its official websites. Q.5 Will I get a job in Government School after clearing the Puducherry Tet Exam?

Ans. No, getting a job opportunity in Government Schools is not guaranteed even after successfully passing the exam. Every year thousands of candidates qualify for this exam and get an eligibility certificate to teach at government schools but due to fewer vacancies, only a few get recruited by government schools.

Q.6 Can I appear in Both Exams Paper I & Paper II?

Ans. Yes, you can appear in both exams of the Puducherry TET/ TNTET exam- Paper I & Paper II, you just need to fulfill the eligibility requirement as per the norms of the exam conducting authority.

Q.7 Is the Puducherry TET certificate valid in other states?

Ans. Since 2012, the board has not conducted the TET examination, but In the year 2013 Government of Puducherry released a notice which stated that candidates who have appeared in TN TET, KTET, or AP TET will be eligible to apply for jobs in the schools run by the Government of Puducherry. But these TET certificates will be valid only in the respective states and in the union territory of Puducherry.

Q.9 How many times can I attempt the Puducherry TET examination?

Ans. There is no restriction on the number of attempts in any of the TET examinations. Candidates can re-appear in the exam if they are not satisfied with their scores.

Q.10 What is the exam pattern of the Puducherry TET examination?

Ans. The Puducherry TET exams have not been held by the authorities since 2012, candidates who reside in Puducherry can apply for the other TET exams conducted for the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, or the Central Government. TET exams conducted by these states are considered valid for the Teacher recruitment process in the government schools of Puducherry.
